True, but the rags-to-riches hero from Alger's novels is a motif
common to most modern capitalist societies.  The idea is almost
universal in the modern world, but it just doesn't have a name as
easily accessable as "The Mother" or "The Masterless Man".

Although it could just be a rumour with no basis in fact. Abel as a
complete mundane would still be powerful enough.
