I have to go with the you just can't. But if you
could, I would think that he would have set the terms
on the only way to be hurt, since when the universe
reboots he writes the rules for it with the last
invisible clergy. So, you can have some sort of
campaign where the players were working to hurt him,
succeded, and then found out he wanted to be hurt,
because it fulfilled some purpose of his.

My first thought would be that the world keeps
chugging along, but things start getting screwed up.
Sort of like if you never shut your computer off or
rebooted it.

I don't really like the idea of someone else instantly
channelling him, but I suppose it's possible.

There could be some sort of criteria that he wrote in
from the last incarnation that chooses a new Comte. Or
alternately, assuming it were possible to hurt him, to
even kill him, I would think he'd have something
planned should that ever happen--you know a ritual
only he knows activates and he takes over the body of
someone nearest him (The First and Last Woman,
anyone?), or his consciousness awakens in a double he
cooked up centuries ago (sort of like on the new
Battlestar Gallatica).
