Saw this French movie the other day. It labels itself as a romantic
comedy, but might be very well seen as the opposite.

To sum up, it follows the lives of Julien and Sophie, as defined by
the game they invented as children and keep playing as adults.
Whenever one of them has a certain token (a toy carousel) in
posession, he or she can issue a challenge to the other. When the
challenge is fulfilled, the token changes hands, and the game
continues.

Now, there are a couple of things that drew my attention:

- As Sophie and Julien grow up, their challenges become more and more
over the top: What initially were annoying childhood pranks take a
turn for the nasty, the cruel and the downright dangerous.
Particularly as their mutual feelings get in the way and they start
using the game to mess with each other.

- The nature of their relationship is fundamentally obsessive. They
pursue each other through the years, and they're willing to leave
family, spouses and duties aside because they can't just let it go.
They are addicted to the game and to each other.

Also, the ending is kinda fucked up.

I can't help but think that in the UA setting, these would be a pair
of adepts on a variant school of Entropomancy. Or perhaps simply two
damaged persons who can't express in any other way how much they love
each other.

Anyway, watch it. If only because it has a killer rendition of "La Vie en Rose".
