Well, at least one of the writeups mentions that male spiders keep
showing up after the ritual is complete. If the ritual produces an
analogous effect in this regard, a male ritualist's life will either
be short and unpleasant (for species which eat the male after mating)
or long and unpleasant (for those that don't).
