Who says he's an adept?

Maybe an enemy of his has worked out how to use Aaron's name against him. 
It wouldn't be enough of a defense for him to simply change his name, as
your true name is given to you and not chosen by you.  By getting others
to rename him, he ends up with a list of potential true names from which
he can choose fresh ones as they become discovered.  Sure, he may say that
he's going to use the name that's picked as the winner, but you know
that's the one name he'll never use.
