If it is the public areas, someone would have palm off
something into the coin slot to jam it.

Then the bandit will have to be taken apart for
diagnosis. If the culprit could slide in a stick of
gum, the guts will need to be dismantled and cleaned.

I presume that many casinos have their own inside man
to deal with casino machines but he might have his
hands too full to bother about rubbing spirits over
gum. Thus the machine will be taken away from the work
area and left to be picked up by an outsourced repair
company.

This is the weak point. The criminal occultists could
easily disguise themselves as the pick-up crew and
disappear with the machine.
