Unfortunately, I was so hideously disappointed by Saw.
The movie promised all these amazing pittraps and
logic bombs - the target could get out of the trap if
he/she was cool and willing to do the task. 

And it ended up a stupid, impossible, and negative sum
scenario.

With that out of the way, a criminal mastermind like
the Saw Guy might work even better if he was some sort
of cruel adept - dominomancer/sadomancer - getting
charges out of imprisoning or controlling people, but
losing them if he harms them directly.
