I find this to be a worthwhile effort. Most of the
best series I have seen follow the complete season
model much like Ultraviolet or Spaced.

Since each season is only marginally connected, each
season is a stand-alone event. It's not all
outrageously bland when you are in season 10 of
Three's Company when aliens move in and live in the
cupboard.

You can still have characters from different seasons
meeting and carrying on their stories but it would be
marginalised or secondary.
You could highlight and foreshadow the next season's
plot by having the elements appear in the background
but not usurp the current story.
