    I take your point, but...what a terrible illustrative example!
    Of COURSE Three's Company would remain insipid if aliens moved into the 
cupboard in season ten.  One of the aliens would mug for the camera and make 
silly noises every time one of the girls walked on screen, and the writers 
would move immediately to jokes on the caliber of "10-inch pianist," ideally 
overheard by Mr. Roper.  Introduction of aliens is a characteristic 
shark-jumping.  Consider the introduction of Gizmo in the sixth and final 
season of the Flintstones, or the introduction of Alf into the first season 
of Alf.
