DAYTON - A man found bound, gagged, beaten and soaked in gasoline inside a 
vehicle told authorities he did it all to himself, the police chief said 
Friday.

Dayton police found the man Tuesday after a neighbor called to report a 
sport utility vehicle parked in the back yard of a historic house.

An officer saw the man bound with duct tape and gagged, so the officer 
smashed a window to get inside and then smelled gasoline, police said.


The man, whom police did not identify, was taken to a hospital, where he was 
initially reported in critical condition and later upgraded to serious.

Police said they did not know the man's motives.
