Btw, it´s not just "slums". And about Rio, the Slums are ON the Rio the
Janeiro City, as well as any other big city here (where I live has a bit
more than 5 million ppl). The death toll on Rio th slums is high, and there
is kind of containable, thanks to Rio geography (is mostly a valley, with
downtown in the middle and the slums in the hills around it) and the desire
of the drug dealers of keeping all their trouble inside their "fiefdoms". In
Recife the muders are all over town. The richer neighborhood here, Boa
Viagem, a beach area, is aceppeted as one of the most dangerous areas unless
you go by car, bus assaults are also common in the bus lines that goes
there. And so on.
So, it´s not like if Rio is not full of slums or if the rest of Brazil is a
slum, on contrary, and as brazilian, who been there and all over the
country, I can only conceive the lure of the Rio the Janeiro thanks to
marketing and Bossa Nova, thyere are much better/beautiful/awesome places in
the rest of Brazil.
And about the Thanatomancers...as well as any critter, demons, etc.
Actually, it´s probably a bit supernaturally crowed place. Some 3rd world
cities are great for that, in Brazil, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and
Belo Horizonte come up easily as (in that order) the most violent places
here.
