In the July 9 & 16 issue of "The New Yorker", there's a section in the Talk
of the Town about a wave of abductions in Greenwich Village.
Of pigeons.
Men in vans and SUVs with tinted windows are stopping, throwing birdseed on
the pavement, then scooping up the pigeons in a net. Several local
residents are quoted with theories as to what's behind it, and a reporter
received a phone call from "an anonymous man claiming to speak for Bird
Operations Busted, a self-styled pigeon liberation outfit." The man claimed
they had detected at least 63 vehicles being used to kidnap birds in NYC.
Someone's clearly doing something, but *what*?
