It's not intentional. It's a side effect of something
else he was trying to do. Or simply a poorly
worded/spell/wish/ritual etc.

It's an attempt to ascend as the Last Man, knocking
Saint-Germain out of place. The final show-down in the
last game takes place in a movie theatre showing a
double bill of Charlton Heston's Omega Man and Vincent
Price's The Last Man On Earth as marketing for the
forth-coming I am Legend, the Will Smith version of
Richard Matheson's novel
