Cool.
What price peace of mind, eh?
Kind of puts me in mind of a storyline I'd love to play (but how to GM?):
Quest for the Sanctuary That Was Not But Might've Been, And Might Yet Be
Some magician and/or cabal is looking for an idealized place or
situation that they've seen hinted at somewhere. Through tremendous
struggles they will either find this place or bring it into being.
Maybe it's an other-space, maybe it's a real place or just a state of
mind, or a little of each.
Achieving the goal of this scenario is potentially a happy ending,
though there are probably many contingencies attached to being in the
place (ie. if you leave you can never return again, or being there you
are separated from something else important to you, or there are
seemingly trivial taboos or acts that will ruin your experience of the
place ever after, or external factors threaten the place, or
everything's great for the character ever after though the
player/audience knows that it's really just a delusion).
Examples:
*Lulu on the Bridge - which didn't make alot of sense but had a
similar situation.
*Big Fish - The town of Specter is such a place.
*Fiddler's Green - Supposedly in old days sailors who tired of the sea
hoisted an oar onto one shoulder and set off across the land looking
for Fiddler's Green to rest.
*Bob Dylan's Dream - "...I wish in vain that we could sit simply in
that room once again. Ten thousand dollars at the drop of a hat, I'd
give it all gladly if our lives could be like that."
*Avalon - The place and/or the quasi-Matrix movie.
*Dark City - The location Shell Beach, which does not exist initially
but is brought about at the end of the movie.
*Brazil - The delusion into which Sam escapes.
