American things.
You find the American flag flown all over the place. Many homes, businesses,
and even some cars fly the flag. Lots of people own guns, not that they are
walking the streets stalking people, but many homes (about 40%) have
firearms. Mostly rifles, then shotguns, then handguns. The cowboy types
generally are conservative and pro-gun ownership, and there are a lot of
Americans that consider ANY gun law to be the beginnings of an attempt by
the government to disarm the populace before instating a totalitarian
regime. These folks are also generally against anything that even appears to
be European, from cars to political ideas (they often equate Europe with
communism). Many other people own guns for self-defense purposes. The
organization most well known for supporting the freedom to own guns is the
NRA (National rifleman's association, you see bumper stickers all over the
place). As an idea, the NRA is against any law which requires guns to be
locked away where children cannot reach them. Not that they want kids to
have guns, they just oppose the government mandate. The NRA actually
supports the PRACTICE of locking guns away from children, but opposes any
LAW requiring it.
Actually that is a common American attitude, which I think you could add to
bring realism to the game. Americans are generally very caring people who
want to do the right thing, we just hate being TOLD to do the right
thing. We are very distrustful of authority.
We also worship the soldiers in the military with almost religious fervor. I
think it is a throwback to the disgusting way many Vietnam vets were treated
when they came come, so we have gone 180 degrees the other way.
You will also almost never find someone to disagree with the statement "The
United States is the best/greatest country in the world." We beleive that we
have perfected goverment by inventing democracy. We believe the rest of the
world is mostly useful only as a tourist destination, and have trouble
understand why foreigners might dislike us.
