[UA] American attitudes and things

It's interesting: Liberals are always wondering "Why do the rural and  
working class poor CONSISTENTLY vote for the Republicans who make  
their lives worse?"  There are two answers, neither of which may be  
right.

Answer 1: These proles don't consider the changes to be bad, because  
it's primarily economic policy that bones them and they're more  
concerned with social policy -- supporting the death penalty,  
restricting access to abortion, etc.

Answer 2: They're hopped up on the American Dream of upward  
mobility.  They don't accept that they're going to be poor forever,  
and when they eventually become rich (by playing pro football,  
recording a rap hit or winning the lottery) they sure as hell don't  
want to pay big taxes to help out a bunch of freeloaders.
