Three answers: they're not talking about us, they're
talking about those other people who are poorer than
we are. You can also count on the fact that no matter
how bad it is, you can always look down at someone.

I can suggest reading the Redneck Manifesto by Jim
Goad (he of Trucker Fags in Denial fame) as a pretty
good source of all things US working class attitudes
(for UA).
