    Or a predator on the squalid, if that's how your lenses filter.  UA 
hook: a duke in need of human sacrifices/minions/whatever sets himself up as 
an army recruiter, but in fact sends the troops somewhere else.  Nobody 
notices much when their boys come back a couple years later, armed, 
close-lipped, and stiffly self-disciplined.  Really weird behavior is 
dismissed as PTSD.
