SOMETIMES people do, but when I've seen it then it tends to be when they 
are outside their locale. When I lived Boston I wouldn't tell other people 
in Boston (which is really Boston Metro) that I was a Bostonian, but when 
I went to Philly or NYC and someone would ask I'd say I was a Bostonian 
(okay really I'd say I was Yankee, but that's another whole ball of wax.)
