Cultural identity's roots are shallower on this side of the pond. If
you live in Spain, your ancestors may have lived there for a thousand
years or more. In the US, if your family has been in one area for
200 years, it's very historical. So people identify with the country
of origin, as well as with The Best Country In The World(TM).
Besides, Italy is fucking awesome. Who wouldn't want to be
associated with that?
