There's another angle. BSE is the sign of a bad kind
whose presence is poisoning the land (hence BSE). The
protectors are hunting this Undead Kind and want to
kill him.

If they manage this, they get to revitalise Britainnia
from her dormancy.

The problem is that the bad king is surrounded by
murderous and demonic Ghost Foxes he killed in ritual
blood hunts.
