Supermarket otherspace?
=====================================
Not totally a relevant tangent to Mattias's comment, but I just felt I should share this.
I had an idea for a one-shot convention scenario. It's been lurking in my brain for quite a few years now, and I still haven't written it on paper. So, I figure I might as well vomit it here in the hopes that someone might find some use from it. I clearly cannot make room for it in my schedule, sadly.
The idea is that the six PCs are actually demons (six is the common number at convention games). They gather at this supermarket. Each demon has his own guilt that must be assuaged. There is a cop who once took a bribe and turned a blind eye to a rapist's dealings. There is an executive who neglects his wife in favor of his job. Different levels of guilt, but they are all strong in these demons. Each demon is keyed to a specific person who is at this supermarket. There is actually a corrupt cop who regularly takes bribes to keep a gang on the streets. There is a salesman who blows off his wife. The demons are very connected to these six people who happened to show up at the supermarket.
Ultimately (and this seems so much cooler in my head than it does in print), each PC is taken aside and is faced with an otherworldly supermarket with miles of aisles that tower over the PCs. Each PC has a unique scenario where he is able to put right the crime of the person he has possessed. The trick is that the player has no idea he is possessing someone. He doesn't even know he's dead. He is just in a weird place and is responding to the bizarre stimuli being tossed at him. In reality, the demon is actually fixing the person he is possessing. For example, the cop stops a robbery by one of the gang members that normally bribes him. The salesman calls his wife and apologizes profusely, promising to take a month-long vacation so they can start anew, which actually stops her from committing suicide. And so forth. In a sense, it's like a "Quantum Leap" episode on crack.
Once the people fix their problems (or they don't, in which case, they probably suffer some karmic penalty to everything they do), the PCs receive their final revelation. They recall their deaths. Each demon has been killed by the same person (no details at this moment, but I'll call him Mr. X). This shifts the demons' obsession from penance to revenge. These six people who never met each other before they came into the supermarket band together and hunt down Mr. X in order to kill him.
Well, that was the thought anyway. The supermarket comment kind of sparked that memory, and that's when I realized that while it's a cool idea (in my mind, at least), it'll never see the light of day.
