I'm evil, and might go one step further. BF one does as you say, hires an
assassin and leaps in front of the bullet - only for BF 2 to lean over him,
face full of tears and say "I know why you did that, and it's okay. I *want*
you to Ascend in my place."

"I forgive you."

The next minute the bleeding Friend is alone on the ground, shaking his fist
at the sky - and a horrified new Archetype gazes down from the Clergy.
