Actually, you aren't correct, and here's why. There are no rules. there are guidelines. In the end, it's ultimatly the GM that makes the decision one way or the other, not a book. Nowhere are the books written in stone, unless Greg or John have had more time on their hands than I had imagined.
Though I'm sure there are major charges involved in that for someone.
The strength of a character comes from the story they have to tell and the place they have in your world. Not shoehorning them into rules whether they fit or not.
IMO. It's not Humble.

Unfortunately your correct. Of course there's nothing preventing the character beginning with both as someone knowing AT can later go Adept. So the rat wanting to be have AT must have learnt the rituals before the classic 5 failed that breeds adepts.

Right. It goes one way.
Authentic Thaumaturges can learn to be adepts just fine, but not the other way around.

Of course the other option is to simply cut them more breaks when they're in town. Maybe suggest to the Urbanomancer that they pick up an Authentic thaumaturgy skill as a second fiddle.
I'm at work so don't have my books handy but I'm 90% sure an adept can't learn Authentic Thaumaturgy, though he could pick up some good rituals or learn how to tilt.
