I don't know. The only game I ever played set in the real-ish world
(not UA though) took place in and around Boston MA (USA) where all the
players lived. I don't recall any PCs trying to visit the players
homes, and generally if someone knew some detail of the city better
than the GM did then the GM just went with their ideas.
I thought it worked out pretty well (in fact it ended up being one of
my favorite long-term campaigns) and at the time we played it I had
difficulty trying to imagine playing a game set in some other
real-world city that few of us would've had any experience with.

Being from the US myself, I think if I was a player then a European
centered game would be of some interest. I'm not sure what it would
add necessarily that I couldn't get from a game set in the US, but I'd
be willing to have a GM with some experience in those regions reveal
the weirdness and exotic elements that I'm overlooking.
If I was doing the GMing though I'd probably give Europe a miss.
Since I haven't actually visited (let alone lived on) that continent,
I'm afraid I'd just gloss over the more interesting details and
present a Europe consisting of postcard images and transparent
stereotypes.
