[UA] UA movie of the year

I just got back from seeing DARK ARC, a film that can fairly be
called an amateurish, pretentious wankfest but that's also ripe with
UA goodness. It's about a decadent noble aesthete obsessed with the
power of "charged images" -- images that implant themselves in your
mind for the rest of your life. He teams up with a "non-sexual
escort" named variously Lamia or Juxta and the pair stage a series of
crafted aesthetic moments in the daily life of an unwitting graphic
designer, attempting to burn a charged image into his brain and alter
his entire aesthetic sense.

The plot has a couple of nice twists in it, in which we learn that
the noble and the designer have more in common than we realized. And
all three characters are obsessed with enacting and reenacting their
own personal charged images: one, the cover design from a box of
chocolates; two, the famous medieval tapestry known as The Unicorn in
Captivity; and three, an obscure nineteenth century painting of two
gentlemen in a pistol duel.

DARK ARC is really pretty bad. But its premise is glorious and its
engagement with the premise is absolute. The reenacting of powerful
images and the conscious attempt to implant new such images in the
mind of a victim is glorious stuff, real magickal thinking, and I was
totally satisfied by this experience.
