Saw this on NPR:

No, it's not about the Zodiac killer per say, but more about the
people who are trying to solve the Zodiac case.

John Mikulenka has done a documentary about the zodiac hunters.  He
first thought they would be "Guys in their 30's without girlfriends",
but seems to have revised his opinion.  He says now it's a
constructive hobby ( at least in their minds it's constructive ), and
they could be throwing their time and money into something less
constructive.. "like watching endless TV or getting drunk all the
time"...

ObUA:
1) Could there be an adept type that hunts down serial killers?  What
the heck would that look like?

2) Perhaps instead of an adept, this is the result of a Sleeper ritual
designed to take adepts and give them a new obsession... finding
Thanatomancers.  If the newly obsessed finds a conventional serial
killer instead, then the Sleepers can pass that along to the police.
