Cooper, are you sure you're not thinking of Peter Pan? Unless there's a Wendy in one of the later books, it's Dorothy who goes to Oz.

Also, that reading of LotR as an allegory for McDonalds is excellent. I've read it before, somewhere, but it always pulls me in. Sure, the trilogy was written between 1937 and 1949 - but that just makes it scarier! How did Tolkien KNOW? He published them RIGHT before Kroc bought up McDonalds! Was he trying to warn us? And, more importantly, how did he know how important burger joints would be, of all things! If I could predict the future, that's not what I'd look for.
