[UA] Cargo cults

Hello.

I am reading Marvin Harris and refreshing my knowledge about cargo
cults (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cargo_cult).

This religion related to "industrial objects" looks very postmodern to
me but I don´t know how to put in in an UA context. Any idea?

Associated with cargo cults is John Frum
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Frum) "a figure associated with
cargo cults on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu. He is depicted as an
American World War II serviceman, who will bring wealth and prosperity
to the people if they follow him. He is sometimes portrayed as black,
sometimes as white; from David Attenborough's report of an encounter:
"'E look like you. 'E got white face. 'E tall man. 'E live 'long South
America."[1]"

What kind of adept or avatar is harvesting all this believers energy?
