To easy.  Alternately, the PCs need to draw upon the power of another 
role, one for which the avatar is symbolically unprepared, to disrupt 
the magical vibes of the ceremony.  PCs must turn his wake into a 
retelling of I Pagliacci, destroying Grimaldi's reputation by rewriting 
history--literally, through rumor, or even by exposing the ironic 
truth--to portray/expose him as a jealous cuckold.  If they can convince 
the audience, their mental image of the fool is confused by the image of 
Canio in the opera.
