It's pretty easy to see that Thanantomancers are 'whacky evil necromancers' they don't think like 'normal' serial killers. They have a veneration of death that colours their entire world view. If you want someone who fits the current paradigm of a killer then you want an avatar, the dark stalker fits perfectly in my opinion.
