On the paramedic note... scary... But maybe he was a freedom fighter from
the quasi future trying to get the jump on a wounded terrorist who their
intel said was shot at this time and date? He travelled back in time to kill
that terrorist who is responsible for 3 million deaths in 2033!

Largely Useless Factoid: I'll have you know that to be
eye-bitten you are in fact enchanted, kind of like an
evil eye but it enamours one. The eye-biting man could
also be some sort of mesmerist or Caligari hypnotist.

Otherwise: Eyes are windows to the soul. They're
filled with something called Aqueous Humour
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aqueous_humor) and the
Encyclodedia Mythica has a bunch of mythological stuff
if you search for Eyes (http://www.pantheon.org/).
