The US military has been working on increasing the endurance ( read:
carrying capacity ) of infantry for a while now. All the
cra^H^H^H^H^H useful gear a soldier has to carry these days can lead
to heat stress an fatigue in short order. Hum vees have their place,
but then they're fuel hungry. Not that it stops the military from
using them, but that's one more thing to add to the supply chain.
