Maybe more like a minimum of 8 years away from a prototype that
doesn't require a tether ;)

Also, I'd think battery technology ( or portable energy generation )
would have to improve significantly before this becomes viable.  That
would be a significant advancement all on it's own.

Still, in UA terms a mechanomancer version wouldn't be subject to
those limitations.
